The Truth About “Sleep Regressions” (And What’s Actually Happening)

You’ve probably heard, "It’s just a sleep regression”
But here’s the honest truth:cNot all sleep problems are regressions.

What is a sleep regression?
A regression is usually linked to development.
As your baby learns new skills; rolling, crawling, walking, sleep can temporarily worsen.
Common ages include:
4 months
6 months
8 months
12 months
But here’s what I see in practice
Many families are told:
“just wait it out”
But after 2–3 weeks… nothing improves
Why?
Because often it’s not a regression.
It’s:
a schedule issue
a sleep association
your baby’s sleep needs have changed
Babies don’t all need the same sleep
Guidelines say babies need a certain number of hours…But that’s a range.
Some babies sit at the higher end some sit at the lower end.
And that matters.
If your baby is being expected to sleep more than they actually need:
they will resist sleep
wake more at night
This is where most plans go wrong
They follow averages.
But your baby isn’t an average.
What actually works
Instead of guessing, I look at:
7–10 days of your baby’s sleep data
patterns across naps + nights
how much sleep your baby is actually achieving
From there, we build a schedule that fits YOUR baby’s sleep “tank”
The result?
fewer night wakings
easier bedtimes
longer stretches of sleep
If you’re stuck in a “regression”
Ask yourself:
has this gone on longer than 2 weeks?
is my baby fighting sleep?
are nights getting worse, not better?
If yes, it’s time to look deeper.
Need help figuring it out?
You don’t have to guess whether it’s a regression or not.
I’ll help you:
understand exactly what’s going on
fix the root cause
support you through the process
